Leicester City continued to go from bad to worse as the Foxes conceded three goals without reply before half time.

Newcastle United fans taunted the empty seats inside the King Power Stadium and were soon in party spirits as they led 2-0 within the first 10 minutes.

Former Fox Harvey Barnes then made it 3-0 in the 35th minute to rub extra salt into the wounds, leading to many choosing to head for the exit door early on.

But that Barnes goal signified something a lot worse.

Harvey Barnes goal makes for embarrassing reading

Barnes was a fan favourite after coming through the Foxes academy and left with well wishes in 2023.

His time at Newcastle has also coincided with the Magpies winning their first trophy in 70 years.

However, in more alarming circumstances, his strike in the East Midlands was the first Premier League goal in the last 21 at the King Power Stadium scored by a player who has represented Leicester City.

As mentioned earlier, Barnes left the club in 2023 so hasn’t played at the Foxes’ home ground in over 12 months.

The last goal scored by a current Leicester player at home in the league was in December.

Barnes refused to celebrate goal against Foxes

Eddie Howe admitted it would be a big game for Barnes against his boyhood club and despite thriving elsewhere, clearly has lots of love for his old team.

The 27-year-old refused to celebrate after being given an easy tap-in from close range, putting the game beyond any doubt.

Meanwhile, for home fans, it was a sign of all the ingredients they are missing from their current crop of players and what they hope to return to in the future.
