Paul Merson and Chris Sutton predict result of Aston Villa vs Leicester City as ‘confident’ claim made

Leicester City will be desperate to end their dismal run of form when they face Aston Villa this weekend.

The Foxes began life under Ruud van Nistelrooy in top form, securing four points from two matches.

It’s been all downhill from there, however, with Leicester City losing their following four clashes while conceding 12 goals.

Van Nistelrooy’s men have now slipped down to 19th in the Premier League table.

They face Aston Villa in 3pm kick-off on January 4th and could climb out of the relegation zone with a win – though that seems unlikely if Paul Merson and Chris Sutton’s predictions are anything to go by.

Paul Merson predicts the winner of Aston Villa vs Leicester City

Aston Villa’s form has declined slightly in 2024/25 compared to the previous campaign.

But they still sit ninth in the top flight and 15 points clear of Leicester going into the weekend’s fixtures.

The last meeting between these two sides ended 2-1 to Villa on August 31st, 2024, and Merson is once again backing Unai Emery’s side to come out on top in the reverse clash.

Speaking to Sportskeeda, Merson predicted a 3-0 win for the home outfit, stating he is ‘confident’ Emery and co. will get back to winning ways.

He said: “Nothing but an Aston Villa win here, I can’t see Leicester causing them any sort of problems whatsoever. Leicester enjoyed a bit of a bounce after the appointment of Ruud van Nistelrooy, but now they’re back to losing games 3-0 and 4-0, which is a huge problem when you’re fighting for survival.

“I’m confident that will Villa return to winning ways here and force their way back into the top four race with the three points.”

Chris Sutton agrees with Paul Merson’s Aston Villa vs Leicester City prediction

While Merson can sometimes be harsh in his predictions, Sutton is often more level-headed.

However, even he, who mentions that Aston Villa will be without Jhon Duran and Morgan Rogers for the game, is backing Leicester to lose.

Speaking to BBC Sport, Sutton predicts the Foxes to suffer a 2-0 defeat at Villa Park on Saturday.

He said: “I don’t see Villa slipping up here, though, even without suspended duo Jhon Duran and Morgan Rogers. Ollie Watkins will lead the line for them again – he has the jersey and will be looking to show why he should keep it when Duran is back from his ban.

“Villa are strong at home while Leicester’s away form is poor, with only one win and two draws from nine games on the road. They are in a relegation scrap and they are going to struggle to stay up.

“The Foxes played pretty well against Manchester City last time out, and missed some good chances, but they still lost. That defeat was their fourth in a row, and I am expecting Villa to make it five.”
