Leicester City suffered a thumping 4-0 defeat to Brentford at the King Power stadium on Friday night.

That’s now 10 defeats out of their last 11 Premier League games, leaving them two points adrift of 17th-placed Wolves.

Leicester fans booed Ruud van Nistelrooy’s side at half-time and at the full time whistle and Jamie Vardy, speaking post-match, admitted that it was really hard to hear.

The Foxes are on a run of six straight home games without scoring, which is a new Premier League record.

Ruud van Nistelrooy’s message to Leicester fans

Asked what he had to say to Leicester fans after the 4-0 loss, Van Nistelrooy explained that he’s taking full responsibility.

“We have to recover from blow after blow,” the Dutchman told BBC Radio Leicester.

“Then we have to pick ourselves up and try to get some positive performances. I can only say that every individual, me first, is taking full responsibility.

“I have to recover and reflect, like all the staff here and take it from there.”

The Leicester boss also admitted, rather brutally, that the players just simply aren’t good enough to compete at this level.

“From now on, I can only ask the players to play to their capabilities. So far we are doing everything we can but the level of opposition that we face is too big for us. It’s difficult to compete.”

Leicester now need five wins from 12

Judging by the trajectory of the three other teams in the relegation battle, Leicester will probably need at least five wins to stay up.

That’d take them to 32 points, which would’ve been enough to survive last season, so that must be their realistic objective.

The Foxes still have Southampton, Ipswich and Wolves left to play, so whilst relegation seems inevitable at this stage, there’s certainly still plenty to play for.

However, Van Nistelrooy must drop his stubbornness and start Facundo Buonanotte, who made a real impact when he came off the bench last night.
