The real reason why Ricardo Pereira isn’t in the Leicester City squad to face Man United

Ricardo Pereira is missing from the Leicester City squad as they prepare to take on Manchester United.

Ruud van Nistelrooy named an unchanged XI for the game, which included Luke Thomas, who was singled out by Van Nistelrooy after impressing against Chelsea.

Victor Kristiansen also keeps his place despite struggling and Patson Daka partners Jamie Vardy up top in a 5-3-2.

Pereira made an emotional return after four months out last week but was absent from the squad list entirely for the Man United game.

Worrying Ricardo Pereira update emerges

The right-back is a popular figure amongst Leicester fans and players and to see his name missing has of course sparked fear.

Unfortunately it seems to be another set back for the Portuguese star, who according to Leicestershire Live, is missing due to a muscle injury.

It’s a hugely frustrating development, especially when Pereira has been out for so long, with Van Nistelrooy changing his formation to accommodate Pereira.

Ricardo Pereira’s injury record is a sight for sore eyes

The 31-year-old has been a leading figure for the Foxes but over the last few years, long-term injuries have plagued his time in the East Midlands.

In 2020, the full-back was considered to be one of, if not, the best full-backs in the top flight and Europe.

However, a cruciate ligament tear and Achilles tendon injury left him on the sideline for well over four months.

Whilst this doesn’t appear to be anywhere near as bad, these niggles add up and it begs the question of whether or not he will be here in the long-term.
