Three things we learned about Leicester City from 3-2 win over Millwall

Leicester City wrestled back top spot in the Championship after securing a 3-2 victory over Millwall on Wednesday night.

Goals from Patson Daka, Jannik Vestergaard and Ricardo Pereira made it four wins from five for Leicester, although it was far from plain sailing.

Millwall stunned the King Power when they took the lead inside ten minutes as Tom Bradshaw’s glancing header flew past Mads Hermansen.

It then took a looping header from Vestergaard to get the hosts back on level terms just after half-time and that was when the Foxes assumed control of the contest until Kevin Nisbet scored what turned out to be a late consolation.

After thrashing Plymouth Argyle on Saturday, Enzo Maresca would have been disappointed with conceding twice on home soil.

Patson Daka is the man

In the absence of striking duo, Kelechi Iheanacho and Jamie Vardy, Patson Daka has taken his opportunity to impress Maresca.

With two goals in as many games, Daka is currently undroppable, and the Italian has echoed that sentiment by placing his faith in the Zambian.

He said: “At this moment, Patson is scoring goals and working hard after three or four months where he waits, waits, waits. For sure, we’re going to trust him and give him more chances, no doubt.”

Once they return, Vardy and Iheanacho will have to fight hard to wrestle back their spot in the team.

Leicester can show lapses in concentration

Leicester still have by far the best defence in the Championship with only 14 goals conceded in their opening 21 matches.

However, rare moments of complacency crept into their game against the Lions.

Maresca’s side were undone by a piece of quality inside 10 minutes as Bradshaw silenced the King Power and then Nisbet gave Millwall a glimmer of hope in the 93rd minute.

Although that only turned out to be a consolation, the Foxes need to be switched on throughout the game, especially across the busy Christmas schedule.

Ricardo Pereira was exceptional on his return

The Leicester right-back served a one-match suspension last match but the Portuguese star was incredible on Wednesday night.

He was instrumental down the right side for Maresca, displaying his class from a defensive and attacking standpoint.

From winning all nine of his ground duels to getting his name on the score sheet, it was a night to remember for the 30-year-old, who showed how invaluable he is to Leicester’s promotion challenge.
