Conor Coady is set to make a Leicester City matchday squad for the first time against Southampton as he recovers from injury.

Leicester travel to St Mary’s Stadium on Friday to face the Saints who were relegated alongside the Foxes last season.

Coady signed for City from Wolverhampton Wanders this summer but is yet to make a competitive appearance.

A foot injury in pre season has seen the England international miss the opening five games of the Championship season.

The centre back has trained this week and should be available to play a part in this weekend’s fixture.

What has Enzo Maresca said about Conor Coady?

When asked about his new man, Maresca said: “He trained with us these last days.

“He has started to be better, to be good. Probably tomorrow, he can be in the squad.”

With that being said he has been out for a sustained period and will take time to come up to the early high pace set.

With that being said, the Italian boss wanted to outline his fitness: “Conor is so important that even if he is not 100 per cent, it’s good to have him with us.

“Probably, he can be with us tomorrow but that doesn’t mean he is 100 per cent.”

If the result is positive, there is an opportunity for Coady to get some minutes off the bench. A start is very unlikely.

There are also injury concerns for Dennis Praet and Tom Cannon. Both players are missing from Maresca’s matchday squad for Friday night.
