Jamie Vardy is one of the most iconic strikers to ever play in the Premier League, as well as a holder of one of the best records in league history.

The veteran Leicester City attacker still holds the record for scoring in the most consecutive games in the Premier League with 11, a feat that was achieved in the Foxes’ title-winning season under Claudio Ranieri.

A record that once belonged to now Leicester manager Ruud van Nistelrooy, Vardy’s standing as one of the greats in the Premier League era will last for an eternity, with the striker a figure who is beloved way beyond the four walls of the King Power Stadium.

And former Leicester star Marc Albrighton has shared how Ranieri played his part in Vardy achieving his most famous Premier League record.

Leicester City players told to help Jamie Vardy make Premier League history

Speaking on Tea with Timbsy, the former Aston Villa star shared how Ranieri instructed Leicester’s players to do all they can to help Vardy score his 11th consecutive Premier League goal, which was achieved against Manchester United.

Albrighton said: “Going into that game, Vards is looking for this goal, so there was a few of us who were desperate to get the assist, because we know that goal is going to be shown for years and years to come.

“And in the dressing room, the manager said: ‘First and foremost, let’s go win this game, but let’s all come together and help Jamie break this record,’ managers don’t really say that.

“But everyone was onboard with it, we were desperate for him to do it, so when it actually happens and Christian [Fuchs] plays that pass through, the place just erupted, it was so special.”

What other records has Jamie Vardy set at Leicester?

At 38-years-old and peaking late in his career, it’s no surprise that Vardy is the holder of some truly incredible records, with the striker this season having the chance to make even more history if he can score and assist in a single game.

Whilst the consecutive goalscoring record is the most famous of Vardy’s records, it’s far from his only one, with the striker currently Leicester’s all-time leading scorer in the Premier League era as well as the leading Premier League goalscorer for players over the age of 30.

Indeed, Vardy potentially has nine Premier League games left in his career, and the forward will want to get as much mileage as possible in the coming weeks in what could be another season of relegation for Leicester.
