Claudio Ranieri is back in management, less than six months after announcing his retirement from football.
The legendary ex-Leicester City boss has taken over boyhood club Roma for a third time in his career until the end of the season.
Ranieri had guided Cagliari to Serie A safety at the end of the 2023/24 campaign before stating he was retiring from management.
But following Roma’s terrible start the 73-year-old was called in to help his beloved club before taking a senior executive role where he will act as an advisor to the ownership group as of next season.

Claudio Ranieri makes Leicester City claim after Roma return
Following confirmation of his appointment, Claudio Ranieri spoke to the press for the first time.
Naturally, Ranieri was asked why he chose to make a U-turn on his retirement and revealed that while he had planned to walk away from the sport, the allure of Roma was impossible to say no to.
“Before answering any questions, I’d like to clarify a few things,” he started by saying.
“I had given up coaching. But I have to say that I received more job offers in the last few months than I did after winning the Premier League with Leicester. It’s incredible but true. And I always said no.
“I said there were only two circumstances in which I might coach again: either at Roma or at Cagliari. But I fully believed that I’d be watching football from the other side.”
As fate should have it, Roma did come calling and now Ranieri will be tasked with halting their poor start to the season.

Leicester can take inspiration from Ranieri’s Roma return when deciding on Steve Cooper’s future
Roma may be onto their third permanent manager of the season but it shows that their ownership aren’t afraid to make the tough decisions.
Steve Cooper has been the subject of intense scrutiny from the Leicester City fanbase and some called for him to be sacked after the 3-0 defeat against Manchester United a fortnight ago.
The Foxes are approaching a tough run of fixtures, starting with Chelsea, and sit just three points above the relegation zone in 15th.

Survival is the goal for Leicester at the end of the day, but if the performances don’t improve, then neither will the results.
Graham Potter is one of those available and the Leicester hierarchy could be influenced by Roma’s bold move to try something similar themselves.
