Leicester City’s Premier League title win will remain the greatest achievement in modern sports for quite some time, with Danny Drinkwater a key part of the historic season.

The Manchester-born midfielder played an integral role for Claudio Ranieri’s side as Drinkwater partnered N’Golo Kante in the centre of the park for Leicester, creating a duo that would inspire the Foxes to the Premier League title.

With Kasper Schmeichel naming Kante as Leicester’s most important player in their run to the English championship, Drinkwater’s partnership with the French international was one of many key factors that blended perfectly for the King Power Stadium side in their Premier League-winning season.

And Drinkwater has now shared another factor that led Leicester to success that kept leaving teams surprised.

Leicester surprised teams by not changing tactics too often

Speaking on Rio Ferdinand Presents, the former Chelsea midfielder shared how Leicester caught teams off guard by not changing tactics too often, with the Foxes sticking with the usual game plan no matter the opposition.

With Arsenal the only team to beat Leicester twice in the Premier League that season, adapting to Ranieri’s side was a key reason why the Foxes were as good as they were in their historic charge to the title.

And Drinkwater believes that teams underestimating Leicester was important to them winning the title, with the former midfielder saying when discussing tactics in their Premier League-winning season: “I think it was that, it was almost a turning point when we were doing it, it surprised a lot of teams.

“They probably weren’t expecting us to do it a lot, but we stuck with it throughout the season. Obviously, Pep going to Man City is kind of everyone’s philosophy. So I think sticking to something that we knew we were good at, even later on in the season, we were talking teams by surprise.”

Danny Drinkwater also shares ‘unreal’ gesture from late Leicester owner

Drinkwater’s career might have been ruined with a move to Chelsea, but the midfielder’s legacy at Leicester will live on for generations to come after the role the maestro played in winning the Premier League.

And Drinkwater also recounted a brilliant tale surrounding Leicester’s late owner Khun Vichai, where the 35-year-old revealed how the Thai billionaire used to take the Foxes out on regular nights out during the title-winning season.

Indeed, Drinkwater and that Leicester side will be immortalised forever in English football, and the midfielder’s role with the King Power Stadium club will never be forgotten by those who watched the incredible run to the title.
