Enzo Maresca’s potential transfer plans at Chelsea could spell bad news for Leicester City after latest comments

Enzo Maresca is enduring his toughest time at Chelsea after leaving Leicester City in the summer.

After initially taking the league by storm with his new side, it’s safe to say things have slowed down for Maresca in recent weeks.

Chelsea were beaten by Aston Villa on Saturday evening, thanks to a Marco Asensio double propelling Unai Emery’s side to victory.

Maresca, who helped Ruud van Nistelrooy in his job search, has multiple issues at Stamford Bridge which are becoming glaringly apparent. One of which is the goalkeeper position – as the Italian has alluded to.

Enzo Maresca has goalkeeper issues for Chelsea

Filip Jorgensen produced one of the worst goalkeeping errors of the Premier League season against the Villans, which was a major talking point after the game. Maresca touched on this in his post-match press conference.

“The keeper position is very delicate,” Maresca said to Sky Sports on Saturday evening.

“When they make a mistake it’s clear for everyone. Unfortunately, Filip made a mistake. But in this moment, he’s our keeper and we need to stay strong and continue to support each other.”

Arguing both the under-fire players had also produced some good displays, he added: “In some games, both our keepers have been brilliant, but as I said it’s a delicate position.”

Alongside a striker, Maresca will probably dip into the market for a goalkeeper, and that could be bad news for the Foxes.

Enzo Maresca rates Mads Hermansen

Maresca is a huge fan of Leicester shot-stopper Mads Hermansen, and without many top-class keepers around, there’s no saying he won’t be an option for the Blues in the summer.

The Italian raided Leicester for Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall when he arrived, but didn’t bring Hermansen with him.

However, Maresca has also shown appreciation for the keeper in the past via a post-match interview against Birmingham. He said: “We won many games this year because of Mads.

“It can happen. What cannot happen is that he starts to play long balls. Otherwise, we are going to play the second keeper.

“For me Mads [Hermansen] was fantastic in the second half. He was not nervous but the people in the stadium were more nervous than him, for sure. But what I said to him: ‘Second half, when we play with you, if you play long, you go out. Continue in the same way.’ He showed personality. He continued to play short.”

Whether it’ll be Hermansen the former Leicester manager has his eyes on in the summer remains to be seen, but it’s undisputed Maresca loves the Dane and he will be in conversations building up to the window.
