Former Leicester City defender and Premier League winner Daniel Amartey has been accused of ‘escaping’ to avoid being sold by Besiktas.
Daniel Amartey has been involved in a transfer nightmare after failing to secure a move away from Turkish Super Lig side Besiktas.
Turkey’s transfer window doesn’t close until 13 September meaning that there is still time for deals to be completed and it appears that Besiktas are looking to offload the former Leicester City man, who made 145 appearances for the Foxes before moving to Istanbul in 2023.
But one year on, it seems that Besiktas want to get rid of Amartey however, it’s proving to be more difficult than they would’ve imagined.

Besiktas believed that they had secured a deal to sell Amartey, with the club’s general secretary Kaan Sakul revealing that they had received up to seven offers for the 29-year-old – only for Amartey to reject all approaches for him.
According to Sakul, via The Sun, Amartey insisted on either making a return to England or securing a move to Germany and even escaped to avoid moving to a fellow Turkish side.
In a damning statement, club spokesman Huseyin Yucel said: “Amartey is a strange person. We made an agreement with a team from Saudi Arabia, but he did not get on the plane.
“We agreed [a deal] with Eyupspor, but he escaped through the back door of our facilities.
“He said, ‘I will go to Germany or England’. When he was told the transfer window is closed, he said, ‘How will it close?'”

Any move away for Amartey is now unlikely to happen until January at the earliest but in light of the recent comments from club officials, the 29-year-old has rejected the claims about his behaviour.
The centre-back said: “They are completely untrue. Nothing like that happened – those allegations should be disregarded.”
Amartey joined Leicester from Copenhagen in January 2016, helping them to win the Premier League that season.
He would also play a part in the squad that won the FA Cup for the first time in the club’s history in 2021 but would cause controversy after the game when he was accused of disrespect for throwing a pennant featuring the Chelsea badge on the floor.
