Former Leicester man ‘can’t understand’ £40k-a-week star’s lack of minutes

Former Leicester City Premier League winner Mark Schwarzer has said that he ‘can’t understand’ why defender Harry Souttar is not being played more often.

The Australian centre back has only featured once in the Championship for the Foxes so far this season, starting against former club Stoke City just before the international break.

The 24-year-old has still been a regular for his nation though, playing the full 90 minutes against England on Friday, and scoring in the 2-0 win over neighbours New Zealand.

With all that being said, former City goalkeeper Schwarzer can’t quite figure out why Souttar is not getting more game time at the King Power Stadium.

“Surely it’s going to be a big concern. I mean, Harry’s certainly not getting minutes for Leicester,” he told The Optus Sport Football Podcast

“I can’t understand how he’s not in that Leicester City starting 11. And then, secondly, I can’t believe he hasn’t found another club.

“That someone else hasn’t come in for him and gone, ‘You know what? The way he played at that World Cup, we’ve got to snap him up straight away’. So that does surprise me.”

Souttar will fancy his chances

Manager Enzo Maresca has opted for Jannik Vestergaard and Wout Faes at the back, with both playing in ten and nine of Leicester’s eleven games in the Championship respectively.

The Foxes have the best defensive record in the league by some way, only conceding six times this season.

With that, you can understand why it is hard for Maresca to drop either of them.

Coming off the back of a strong international break and playing in the win over Stoke just before, Souttar will fancy his chances of breaking into the starting lineup on a regular basis.
