Leicester City manager, Enzo Maresca, has said that he expected more from his team in their 2-0 win over Tranmere Rovers in the second round of the EFL Cup.
The Foxes are though to the third round after goal from Wilfred Ndidi and Jamie Vardy saw off their League Two opposition.
The Italian manager named a strong starting eleven but it took until the 55th minute to open up Tranmere.
With 69% possession, nearly 700 passes made and the win you would imagine that would be a good nights work.
Not the case through the eyes of Maresca.
What has Enzo Maresca said?
It was clear the Foxes’ boss wasn’t pleased with his teams performance overall.
When discussing certain players he said: “With some things I was not happy.
“Don’t ask me which players, but I was not happy.”
It appears that it was first team, senior players that were the point of contention for Maresca.
“They are important players for me, they are important players for the club, they are important players for their team-mates, and some of them they need to give more.”
This would indicate that it is leaders within the group, older players maybe, that the Italian took issue with.
This was further enforced when he said: “The young players like Ben Nelson, Wanya played again, Yunus for his debut. I’m happy for all of them.”
In spite of certain aspects he wasn’t pleased with, overall his start to life at the King Power has been positive: “After two months, I’m quite happy how the team understands the idea.”
Hull City travel to the East Midlands next with Maresca looking to maintain his 100% start.
