Foxes hunt young Danish shot stopper

It is no surprise that Leicester City are searching for a new goalkeeper, and Brondby’s Mads Hermansen might be just the man.

According to the Daily Mail, via Sky Sports, the Foxes are targeting the Superligaen goalie to solve their positional problem in between the sticks.

The 23-year-old has been a regular in the Brondby lineup for the past two seasons, racking up 70 appearances and winning the Player of the Year trophy for his side in 2022 following strong performances throughout the year.

It is unclear who Leicester’s number one is at present due to both Danny Ward and Daniel Iversen featuring throughout their Premier League relegation season. Ward began the campaign as first choice following the departure of club legend Kasper Schmeichel, but was often caught out and made costly errors. Iversen replaced Ward towards the end of the season, but with a new season upon us we are still no closer to figuring out who new boss Enzo Maresca prefers.

It is safe to say that this is a position that the club could have done with improving a little earlier than this summer, but the right steps are being made if Hermansen is to walk through the door.

Would Hermansen be a good fit?

After all, the last time that the Foxes signed a 23-year-old Danish shot stopper he went onto secure promotion to the top tier, win the Premier League itself, pick up an FA Cup and add a Community Shield to his collection; not a bad return, hey?

Hermansen has kept 14 clean sheets for Brondby over the past two seasons, during which he made five Europa League appearances and featured twice in Champions League qualifying rounds.

Leicester are yet to replace Schmeichel a year on from his exit, so the addition of a young goalkeeper with the experience that Denmark U21 international Hermansen holds would be a shrewd piece of business.
