Leicester City look set to receive a charge after breaching profit and sustainability rules, which could see them handed a points deduction at the start of next season.
With such news emerging last week, it left Leicester‘s promotion push a little uncertain, as many were left unsure as to what may happen this term.
Though, as it stands, City are expected to be docked points this year, which will be a relief to Enzo Maresca.
Notwithstanding that, the negativity around the club is the last thing Maresca will want to contend with, as his side look to return to the top-flight.
Gary Lineker, speaking on The Rest Is Football podcast, spoke on The Foxes’ potential PSR charge and their loss of form in the Championship.
Gary Lineker critical of Leicester City board

The former City striker wasn’t critical of the EFL or Premier League, speaking on City’s current financial predicament, instead, he directed his annoyance to the Leicester management.
“Rules are the rules (on Leicester’s potential PSR charge) and if you break them, it may or may not be my team, but I would criticise the management of the club at that point.”
Many Leicester supporters have been critical of the EFL due to reports that emerged which noted that they had ‘acted outside of their powers‘ in order to force the club into submitting a business plan.
The case was heard by an independent panel and it ruled in the favour of the football club, who released a statement which read: “Today (Wednesday 6 March) the EFL has published a decision of the Club Financial Reporting Panel (CFRP), which confirms that the EFL’s Club Financial Reporting Unit (CFRU) acted outside of its powers in its dealings with Leicester City in November 2023.
“Although the Club is pleased that the CFRP’s decision found in its favour, it is concerned that it was necessary for the CFRP to intervene in this way to prevent the CFRU from acting outside of established EFL rules.
“Leicester City confirms it is in discussions with the football authorities regarding its profitability and sustainability calculations. Notwithstanding the CFRP’s decision, the Club remains committed to seeking an appropriate overall outcome in this matter.”
Gary Lineker concerned about Leicester City’s form
Leicester City were held to a score draw on the weekend by Hull City and it left The Foxes just three points clear of second-placed Leeds United and four from Ipswich Town.
“Only won one of the last five, Leicester. Squeaky squeaky squeaky bum time. Why is it in football nothing’s ever easy? There you were cruising along, 10 points, 11 points clear,” Lineker said.
“I suppose every team is going to have a sticky spell. As long as it doesn’t last any longer.”
Leicester don’t return to Championship action until after the international break, as they make the trip down to the capital this weekend to face Chelsea in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup.
