Gary Lineker was right to be worried about Leicester City in August, his biggest fear has come true

It is fair to say the 2024/25 season has not been great for Leicester City so far.

After being thumped 3-0 by Manchester United in their last fixture before the November international break, Leicester City are sat 15th in the Premier League table.

The Foxes are just three points above the relegation zone going into the next round of fixtures with the same goal difference as 18th-place Crystal Palace.

Former manager Enzo Maresca is set to return to the King Power Stadium on Saturday with his Chelsea side, who are clear favourites to pick up the win amid their superb start to 2024/25.

Amid such a poor run of form, Leicester have given Steve Cooper a deadline to save his job, but it is looking likely the 46-year-old will be relieved of his duties amid his continued struggles in the Midlands.

Despite being firmly in the relegation fight now, the Foxes’ campaign started on a fairly positive note with a 1-1 draw versus Tottenham Hotspur.

What Gary Lineker said about Leicester City in August

It was not a great performance from Leicester but a point against a side with Champions League aspirations is still positive.

However, that game was swiftly followed by a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Fulham on August 24th.

Following the loss to Marco Silva’s side, club legend Gary Lineker expressed worry for Leicester and highlighted the fact they could have conceded a lot more against Spurs.

He said: “I’ve got to talk about Leicester. I’m a little bit worried, although they’re not shipping goals, they could have conceded a lot against Spurs.

“But they’ve kind of been playing very deep,  trying to counter-attack. I thought Fulham thoroughly deserved their victory, they were much the better side so slightly worried about my team.”

Gary Lineker Leicester City fear has come true

Lineker’s concern about Leicester starting to leak goals was justified at the time and unfortunately for Foxes fans, has come to pass.

Cooper’s men have managed just one clean sheet in the Premier League this season – versus Bournemouth on October 5th.

They have shipped 21 goals in 11 league games, which is the joint-third most of all 20 sides in the top flight.

Leicester were also hammered 5-2 by Manchester United in the Carabao Cup last month, with it clear defence is their weakest area by some distance right now.

And with Chelsea the joint-second top scorer in the Premier League going into Saturday, another hammering may well be on the cards for the Foxes.
