Leicester City kicked off the Ruud van Nistelrooy era with a 3-1 win against West Ham United.

Jamie Vardy was so impressive as he opened the scoring with a neat finish inside two minutes and Mads Hermansen was another Leicester player who really wowed supporters.

In fact, some Leicester fans believe Hermansen could become one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League after watching him make seven fantastic saves, rescuing the hosts on a number of occasions in the first half.

Bilal El Khannous earned the plaudits from van Nistelrooy after his goal and assist, which makes Steve Cooper’s decision to bench him for much of the season baffling.

All in all, it was a productive evening for van Nistelrooy who was observed by Graham Potter from the sidelines.

Potter was one of the pundits for Amazon Prime and he was asked about whether he was contacted by Leicester before the Dutchman was appointed.

Graham Potter hints that he wasn’t contacted by Leicester after Steve Cooper sacking

Speaking to Amazon Prime, Graham Potter appeared to hint that he wasn’t contacted by Leicester following Steve Cooper’s sacking, as he insisted not to believe everything you read in the newspapers.

Dan Walker: Graham can we address the managerial elephant?

Potter: Which one? Elephants”

Walker: “Well, there’s a lot of people here who are very interested in the fact that you’re covering a game on Leicester, where was Leicester on your radar, can I ask you that and give us your best diplomatic answer.”

Potter: “I booked this game a few weeks ago so I thought we were actually going to be in the studio to be honest and I find myself outside in the cold.

“What I’m realising in this world is you don’t believe everything you read in the newspaper. I’ve spoken to a lot of people, a lot of clubs over the summer and over my time I’ve been out.”

“But out of respect for them, I keep those conversations private.”

Van Nistelrooy looks like an inspired appointment

Van Nistelrooy was viewed as a big risk by many due to his lack of experience in the dugout.

But it looks like he could be an inspired appointment as he’s immediately united the players and fans, which was not the case under Cooper.

Further, the Dutchman has already shown a willingness to give youth a platform in the shape of El Khannouss, who was not given much playing time under the previous regime.

Leicester now prepare to travel to Brighton and Hove Albion on Sunday afternoon ahead of a busy festive period.
