Former Leicester City player Matt Piper has been discussing his views on the Foxes’ transfer business and in particular Stephy Mavididi.

Piper came through the Leicester youth sides in the early 2000’s as a right sided midfielder.

He made 18 appearances for Leicester in total during the 2000-01 and 2001-02 seasons.

In the summer of 2002 he was sold to Sunderland for a fee of €5.25m which was a big fee for the time.

He would go on to make 27 appearances for Sunderland where he suffered various injuries.

However his career was cut short due to a number of serious injuries which had him miss the majority of both the 2003-04 and 2004-05 seasons.

Piper on Mavididi

Speaking on BBC Sport Leicester, Piper revealed his excitement at the arrival of Mavididi from Montpellier.

He said: “It’s great news, a winger and he’s exciting, watched his YouTube clips of course.

“He looks the type of exciting, edge of your seat player that I was asking for.

“Young player on a big contract and he may go straight into the team.”

Clearly eager to see the new Foxes star in action, Piper was hugely complimentary of him.

Mavididi likely joins as the replacement for Harvey Barnes who made the move to St James’ Park recently.

He will bring direct threat as he is a player who will look to run at defences and score goals, something he could be excellent at in the Championship.

With the season opener coming this Sunday against Coventry, Leicester fans won’t have to wait long to discover what he will bring to the side.
