With the season well and truly underway, several of Leicester City’s players are out on loan and are looking to impress ahead of a return or potentially seal a permanent move away.

The transfer window was a busy period for Steve Cooper, as nine players joined Leicester City this summer.

With so many new faces, others would inevitably depart the King Power Stadium.

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall was the biggest name to leave, linking up with former Foxes boss Enzo Maresca at Chelsea, while several others also went out on loan.

With that, we take a look at every player Leicester has out on loan and how they’ve all fared in their first month at the club.

Harry Souttar – Sheffield United

Harry Souttar’s frustrations at Leicester have been well-documented for some time now.

After joining from Stoke City in January 2023, the Australia international has struggled for game time under three separate managers. In the summer, he was given the chance to join Championship side Sheffield United on loan.

Souttar has featured in four games in all competitions so far and even wore the captain’s armband for their Carabao Cup first-round win against Wrexham, and has played the full 90 minutes in three of his four appearances.

His return to regular first-team football has even seen the 25-year-old find his way back into the international set-up with Australia.

Ben Nelson – Oxford United

Ben Nelson is one of Leicester’s most talented prospects and after being in and around the senior set-up for some time, a high-level loan move away is what he needed to prepare him to compete for a starting spot next season.

Newly promoted Championship side Oxford United came calling on deadline day and sealed a move for the 20-year-old.

Nelson was ineligible to play for their first fixture after signing after the deadline to register new players but he will be in contention for Oxford’s first game after the international break against Stoke City.

Tom Cannon – Stoke City

Like Nelson, Tom Cannon also left Leicester on deadline day to join Stoke City.

Game time has been limited for Cannon, who has only started three games for the Foxes since a £7m move from Everton in the summer of 2023.

Cannon made no secret of his desire to go and play first-team football, after a difficult period in the East Midlands. If he performs in Staffordshire, there’s every chance that it could evolve into a permanent move however in the short-term, it’s a deal that suits all parties.

He could come up against fellow Leicester loanee Nelson when Stoke travel to Oxford on 14 September.

Wanya Marcal – De Graafschap

Youngster Wayna Marcal had a bit-part role to play in the Championship-winning season, scoring against Cardiff City but with several attacking additions coming in towards the end of the transfer window, the Portuguese wide-man had fallen down the pecking order.

Another one of the players to leave on deadline day, football in the second tier of the Netherlands will be a different but vital experience.

There’s been glimpses from Wanya Marcal to suggest that he could have a long-term future but it will heavily rely on him being the star of the show at De Graafschap.

Sammy Braybrooke – Dundee

After recovering from a long-term ACL injury, Sammy Braybrooke is now at the age where he needs to be playing senior football.

Braybrooke has been one of the stars of the Foxes youth teams and the chance to play north of the border for Dundee represents an excellent opportunity for him to shine.

The 20-year-old has captained Leicester at the younger levels and made his debut for Dundee in a 2-2 draw against St Mirren, playing 62 minutes before being substituted.

Dundee’s captain and star man Luke McCowan also left the club to join Celtic on deadline day, meaning that Braybrooke has a chance to prove that he can fill the void for the season.

Silko Thomas – Wigan Athletic

Silko Thomas is one of the youngsters highly-rated at the King Power Stadium and after impressing in the Under-21s set-up since joining from Chelsea, was allowed to go out and play senior football.

Wigan Athletic of League One was the chosen destination and he has played plenty of football so far.

Thomas has featured in five games, starting four of those and coming off the bench in the Carabao Cup.

The 20-year-old has yet to score or assist for Wigan, but regular first-team opportunities will only make him a better player.

Amani Richards – Exeter City

Amani Richards has been a name familiar to those who keep up to date with Leicester’s academy teams.

Having proven himself as a goalscorer at that level, senior football was always the next step.

The 19-year-old joined League One side Exeter City on loan until the end of the season and has made one appearance for the Grecians so far, coming off the bench in a 2-0 win against Bolton Wanderers.

Brandon Cover – Port Vale

Brandon Cover made his senior debut for Leicester last season but with first-team football unlikely at the King Power Stadium for the time being, a loan was the best option.

Port Vale of League Two was the chosen destination and has played twice for the Valiants, starting in both but also being substituted in both.

Chris Popov – Barrow

Just days after making his senior competitive debut for Leicester in the Carabao Cup win against Tranmere Rovers, Chris Popov was given the chance to spend the season on loan at Barrow.

Popov started against Harrogate Town in a 1-0 win, playing the full 90 minutes. He missed Barrow’s most recent game against Swindon after being called up by Wales’ Under-21s squad.

Brad Young – Hartlepool United

The final one of Leicester’s players out on loan is Brad Young, who has returned to Hartlepool United for the season.

Young was brought to the East Midlands from Hartlepool and established himself as the number one choice at youth level, but has now gone back up north for senior first-team action.

At 22, Young is unlikely to force his way into contention at the King Power Stadium and this loan is a great chance to put himself in the shop window for any future moves.

He is yet to play for the National League side and was on the bench for their most recent game, a 0-0 draw at home to Halifax Town.
