‘I wouldn’t’: Journalist delivers verdict on £75k-a-week Leicester star ahead of QPR clash

Leicester City journalist Jordan Blackwell has delivered his verdict on striker Patson Daka ahead of the trip to face QPR this weekend.

The 25-year-old, who is said to be on £75,000-a-week, joined the Foxes for £23 million back in June 2021 – but he’s failed to make a real impact.

In the Championship so far this season, Daka has only played 27 minutes of first-team football for Enzo Maresca’s side – with 26 of those minutes in one game.

It’s no surprise that the former RB Salzburg striker looks set to leave the King Power Stadium during the January window.

Jordan Blackwell on Patson Daka starting against QPR

During a Q+A with the Leicester Mercury, journalist Blackwell was asked about the possibility of the Zambian leading the line on Saturday.

“I wouldn’t be against him playing, and I agree with you about his speed. I thought when he came on against Sunderland he looked rapid, far quicker than anybody else on the pitch.

“But I don’t see him getting into the team when Vardy and Iheanacho are available. I like what Maresca’s doing with the two of them and rotating them game by game, always replacing one with the other.

“So in that sense, I don’t think there’s any need to play Daka. He is similar to Vardy and I just don’t think he needs to play unless Vardy is injured. I think he would be fine in the role, and would probably do well.

“But he’s probably going to leave in January, and so I think it’s better for the future of the club if the minutes go to Cannon. He’s going to be fit soon, and he will be needed in January when Iheanacho is at AFCON.”
