Former Leicester City manager Ian Holloway has said that the Leicester fans have ‘suffered’ in the last few years after relegation.

The Foxes were relegated to the Championship last season making a return to the second tier after nine years away.

It is a massive fall off from winning the FA Cup only a few years ago back in 2021, and of course winning the Premier League in 2016.

In an interview with Football League World, Holloway has said that he hopes the Foxes make an instant return to the top flight.

“Well I hope they do (win promotion at the first time of asking). That fanbase has suffered, obviously. They suffered when I was there, we went down.

“They don’t deserve it. They’re a massive club, they’ve had unbelievable success, probably the most remarkable season I’ve ever seen, winning it [Premier League] under [Claudio] Ranieri. And then they sacked him the following year.

“They lost their owner in a terrible, terrible accident and I really feel for them.

“So congratulations to them so far, they’ve bounced back. They’ve lost some of their best players, but hopefully they will get there [the Premier League] again.

“With that fanbase, they’re definitely bigger than the division they’re in at the moment.”

Foxes on course for promotion after great start

Currently, Leicester are on course to fulfil Holloway’s wishes, as they are top of the Championship table after eleven games.

Manager Enzo Maresca is doing a fantastic job, picking up 30 points from a possible 33.

Leicester will hope to maintain their form after the international break when they face Swansea City on October 21st.
