Jamie Vardy is still Leicester City’s main man at 37.

The forward has been a crucial part of the Foxes’ DNA for over 10 years now and it’s hard to imagine what life would be like without him.

With four goals in 10 games this season, Vardy has already bettered his return of three goals from 37 matches in the 2022/23 relegation campaign.

Many have wondered when he will slow down, but as one key stat proves, he is improving as time passes.

Jamie Vardy is playing more minutes than ever before

Although he wasn’t on the scoresheet himself in the late draw against Ipswich Town, instead laying on the assist for super-sub Jordan Ayew’s late equaliser, it was another 90 minutes completed for Vardy.

That was the sixth game of the season where the striker has played the full game – matching the number of games he completed two seasons ago, as revealed by Leicestershire Live.

He only played the full 90 once in the Championship-winning campaign and as it stands, has played 94 per cent of Leicester’s league minutes this season.

The last time he was averaging more was in 2017/18, when Vardy was 30/31 at the time. To put into context, he hasn’t averaged above 55 per cent in any of the last three seasons.

Should Leicester offer Jamie Vardy a new contract?

It’s getting to that time of the year when players out of contract are either in the shop window or fighting for a new deal.

With Vardy, it’s a more peculiar situation as due to his legendary status, he has earned the right to choose what to do.

Come the end of the season Vardy will be 38 but based on evidence from the opening 10 games, he has shown no signs of slowing down.

Even if he were to sign a new deal and see his playing time reduced, his presence at the club would still be vital and it feels like a no-brainer to tie him down for another year should he wish to keep playing.
