Leicester City’s 2015/16 Premier League title win is a feat we will never see again in the modern era of English football.

The fairytale story led by Claudio Ranieri and featuring a legendary cast of characters is one that will be forever remembered by any football fan who was blessed enough to watch the Foxes’ run from Premier League relegation favourites to the biggest prize in England.

With the tenth anniversary of the title win coming up next year, there is a sense of nostalgia in the air when looking back on that team, with Jamie Vardy still on Leicester’s books and since going down as arguably the club’s greatest-ever player.

And for former goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel, the now-Celtic star has shared why Leicester’s mentality to winning the Premier League was completely different to any other side that has managed to accomplishment.

Kasper Schmeichel praises Leicester closeness during title-winning season

Speaking on Stick to Football, the former Leicester number one noted how the closeness of the entire squad and the club played a big role in taking off the pressure in winning the Premier League, with the vibe of the team similar to that of a Sunday league pub side.

Schmeichel said: “I think we were slightly different in the sense that we had quite a set way. We always joked that we were the best pub team in the world, we genuinely were. We’d still go for a drink when we lost.

“We’d been brought together and had this group of really good players who all had a point to prove. But then we had an owner who was so different to anything I’ve ever experienced but just did things right. But he was the catalyst for all of this. Win or lose, we’d have a good time.

“The owner would take us out for dinner, even if we lost. He made sure regardless, if we won or lost, we’d still finish the evening properly. He never demanded us to win, he demanded to give our best. He went above and beyond for everyone else but more than anything, he drove the collective. You’d have done anything for them.”

How has Kasper Schmeichel performed at Celtic this season?

Three years on since leaving Leicester, Schmeichel’s career has been an interesting watch from afar after spells at OGC Nice and R.S.C. Anderlecht, with the former Danish international now plying his trade at Scottish giants Celtic.

And in his first season in Glasgow, the former Leicester star is impressing, with Schmeichel impressing for Celtic in their recent UEFA Champions League clash against Bayern Munich, even with the Hoops crashing out of Europe.

With Schmeichel already winning silverware for Celtic this season, the veteran goalkeeper is at a good club at this stage in his career, and Leicester fans will be hopeful that the Danish shot-stopper can end the year with another trophy.
