Leicester City Boxing Day record now revealed ahead of huge Liverpool clash – it’s a concern

Leicester City are back in Premier League action on December 26th against Liverpool.

It’s been a very interesting first half of the season for Leicester City on and off the pitch.

The Foxes were forced to wave goodbye to Enzo Maresca over the summer after his title-winning campaign.

The Leicester owners then opted to hire Steve Cooper as his replacement, which really didn’t work out.

The Foxes won just two league games under Cooper and were dangerously close to the relegation zone when he was sacked.

Leicester then appointed Ruud van Nistelrooy as their manager and saw an immediate uptick in form.

The Midlands outfit beat West Ham United in his first game in charge, with a 2-2 draw against Brighton and Hove Albion following.

However, this week’s meeting with Liverpool is set to be the Dutchman’s toughest test to date.

Leicester City Boxing Day record in the Premier League

Liverpool are flying high at the top end of the Premier League this season and look favourites for the title.

As if the game wasn’t going to be tough enough though, Leicester’s record on Boxing Day suggest a win is even more unlikely than it already was.

Since their first Premier League season in 1994/95, Leicester have played on December 26th 17 times.

However, they have only managed to pick up two wins in said games, drawing three and losing a staggering 12 times.

Leicester spent 2023/24 in the Championship, with their last top-flight fixture on Boxing Day seeing them get thumped 3-0 by Newcastle United in 2022.

When looking at teams that have played at least five times on Boxing Day in the Premier League, Leicester’s run is one of the worst.

Only Aston Villa (15 losses, 26 matches) and Newcastle (16 losses, 25 matches) have lost more Boxing Day clashes.

Their last Boxing Day win should give them some hope for their meeting with Liverpool, however, as they beat Manchester City back in 2018.

Liverpool record on Boxing Day

However, if history is anything to go by, the chances of Leicester winning this week are slim to none.

Unlike the Foxes, Liverpool are superb when taking to the pitch on December 26th.

The Reds have won their last seven meetings on Boxing Day, not tasting defeat since a 2-1 loss to Man City back in 2013.
