Leicester City are waiting to hear back on the results of a scan on one of their highly-rated prospects out on loan.

The Foxes loaned out several youngsters in the summer window in a bid to give them exposure to first-team football.

Tom Cannon and Brandon Cover were among some of the names sent out on loan to get minutes as well as academy graduate Ben Nelson, who is tipped for big things at the club.

Ben Nelson forced off with injury in Oxford win

Nelson has had to bide his time to get into the Oxford United starting XI but has deservedly earned his place in the team in recent weeks.

The 20-year-old started the Championship side’s 1-0 win against Hull City but was forced off after the hour mark due to injury.

Oxford boss Des Buckingham told the Oxford Mail that he had no update on Nelson straight after the game but on Wednesday, the Leicester correspondent for The Athletic, Rob Tanner, confirmed that the England youth international would be going for a scan.

Could Leicester recall Ben Nelson in January?

Leicester could be tempted to recall Nelson if they feel it is necessary and have a loan recall clause in his contract.

The defender is playing regularly in the second tier, a level that he will feel well-suited to now.

Cooper also has strength in depth at the King Power Stadium but with the form of Wout Faes and Caleb Okoli questionable at times, Jannik Vestergaard not always fit, and Conor Coady seemingly a last resort option, bringing Nelson back isn’t out of the question.

At 20, Nelson needs game time to fulfill his potential and the club must decide where is best for him to excel.
