Vardy, Praet and five more: Leicester City injury latest ahead of Coventry clash

Enzo Maresca has delivered an update on when he expects his injured Leicester City players to return to action.

Leicester City have successfully navigated through the busy festive period and can use the lighter January to help recover those players on the sidelines.

Much like the majority of the Championship, Leicester have had to deal with their fair share of injuries this term.

Most notably, first-team stars Jamie Vardy, Kelechi Iheanacho and Wilfried Ndidi, have all either spent spells on the sidelines or are currently recovering from an injury.

Unlike the rest of the division, however, Enzo Maresca has an embarrassment of options to choose from, so when a player sustains an injury, the replacement is just as good, if not better.

The star-studded squad at his disposal has helped him through a busy schedule and ensured his side have remained well-clear at the top of the table.

Indeed, the Foxes have got stronger as the season has gone on and are unbeaten in their last ten league matches.

On Saturday, they were able to turn their attention to the FA Cup as Maresca made wholesale changes to his side, giving starts to the likes of Marc Albrighton, Ben Nelson and Wanya Marcal, who have largely been frozen out this season.

Despite playing a second-string side, Leicester were able to secure a 3-2 victory over divisional rivals Millwall to advance into the next round where they will play Hull City at the King Power Stadium.

Here is the latest update on those players on the injury table.

Leicester City injury update

With eight players out at the moment, Leicester can ill-afford to see more of his players sustain an injury.

Patson Daka and Harry Souttar are away representing Zambia and Australia respectively.

The same applies to Iheanacho, who will join up with Nigeria for their AFCON campaign as long as he recovers his fitness in time to play some part for the Super Eagles.

On the other hand, fellow countryman Ndidi has been completely ruled out of the tournament with a muscle injury, potentially sidelining him till April.

Vardy (knee) and Kasey McAteer (hamstring) were expected to be out for one or two more weeks before the Rotherham game, however, they continue to be absent a fortnight on.

Maresca also expected Dennis Praet, who has only featured five times in the Championship this season, to return against Cardiff City but he hasn’t been named in any squads since.

Whilst the Foxes have had to navigate through a whole host of injury troubles and absences, they still have an excellent squad to cope with that, but only if the injury troubles subside before key first-teamers return.
