Leicester City move to sign ‘top-level’ target in summer may depend on one factor

As the season draws to a close, transfer rumours have started to emerge ahead of a busy summer window for clubs across the country.

Leicester City, despite a poor run of form, remain well-placed to gain promotion from the Championship this season.

Admittedly, they currently reside in third place, two points adrift of league leaders Ipswich Town, though, they do have a game in hand.

So, as it stands, the title remains in Leicester’s hands and they’ll probably need to win six of their remaining seven games to secure it, which would move them to 103 points.

Due to their ongoing Profit and Sustainability saga, question marks have been raised as to what they’ll be able to spend in the summer transfer market.

Indeed, a lot will depend on what division they end up in, but anyhow, they’ve just been linked to a ‘top-level’ Premier League striker.

According to FootballTransfers, Leicester have joined the race for Arsenal forward Eddie Nketiah, who could replace Jamie Vardy.

Vardy’s contract expires at the end of the season and he isn’t expected to pen a renewal, which would free up wages to land Nketiah.

City face stiff competition, though, as Premier League duo Crystal Palace and Brentford are both interested in landing his signature.

So in order for The Foxes to stand any real chance in the race, they’ll need to gain promotion to the top-flight this season.

The report further claims that Nketiah is favouring a move to Brentford, more so, at this stage, though, that was before Leicester made their interest known.

Indeed, with the 24-year-old already based in London, The Bees have the advantage in negotiations, so Enzo Maresca and his chiefs will need to put a convincing pitch forward.

Eddie Nketiah would be an ideal replacement for Jamie Vardy

If Vardy were to leave in the summer, the club would be hard-pressed to find a replacement of a similar calibre for a reasonable fee.

Whilst Nketiah isn’t as polished as The Foxes legend, he is considerably younger and has plenty of time to develop.

His goal record is pretty impressive at Arsenal, given he hasn’t always been a regular under Mikel Arteta.

Nketiah has netted five times in 10 starts this term and in the previous campaign, he struck nine in 18 outings when named in the first eleven.

So clearly, if he’s given a chance to impress from the off, he’ll certainly find the back of the net on a pretty regular basis.
