Leicester City welcome Newcastle United to the King Power Stadium on Monday night.

12 points adrift of safety with just eight games remaining, Ruud van Nistelrooy’s side face a monumental task to avoid relegation.

Foxes fans will nonetheless want to see more fight in their side than last time out, Leicester going down 2-0 at Manchester City in a weak display.

They will also be buoyed by Newcastle’s fresh injury concerns, Eddie Howe questioning the fitness of several of his key players following their win against Brentford on Wednesday night.

Eddie Howe casts doubt on fitness of Anthony Gordon, Alexander Isak and Kieran Trippier

Speaking in his press conference ahead of Monday night’s game, Howe revealed that Anthony Gordon, Alexander Isak and Kieran Trippier face a race to be fit.

Of these three, Gordon seems the most unlikely to feature.

While the winger is available to play again after serving a three-game suspension, Howe revealed that Gordon “has done individual training, not group training, and is still not feeling 100% pain-free so we will have to wait and see.”

Should Gordon miss out, former Leicester winger Harvey Barnes will likely be afforded the opportunity against his former club.

On Trippier and Isak, Howe said: “I had medical updates [Thursday], but I will see them for the first time [on Friday].”

Howe added: “We don’t think we have any big injuries from Wednesday night, but we certainly have a few niggles.”

Interestingly, on The Rest if Football podcast,Newcastle legend Alan Shearer said Isak looked “tired” in Newcastle’s 2-1 against Brentford.

Howe may therefore decide to preserve his star striker for games down the line as Newcastle fight to qualify for the Champions League.

Sven Botman and Lewis Hall will also be missing with both players longer-term absentees.

Regardless of whether Newcastle’s stars feature or not, it will be a tough evening for van Nistelrooy’s side.

Newcastle come into the game in sparkling form, having also beaten league leaders Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final in March to win their first major domestic trophy in 70 years.

History isn’t exactly on Leicester’s side, either, with the Foxes losing three and winning two of their last five games against Newcastle at the King Power Stadium.

Leicester were also crushed by Newcastle at St James’ Park earlier this season, Eddie Howe’s side running out comfortable 4-0 winners thanks to goals from Bruno Guimaraes and Isak, as well as a double from Jacob Murphy.

Winless and scoreless in seven, Leicester will be hoping for a bit of revenge this time around.
