Liverpool are set to complete the signing of Leicester City youth star Trey Nyoni.

The 16-year-old talent is to be snatched from the Foxes’ grasp according to Fabrizio Romano, with the Reds poised to add another top talent to their academy.

An England Under-16s international, although also eligible to represent Zimbabwe, Nyoni caught the eye for Leicester’s Under-18s last season causing top scouts to circle.

Featuring 13 times in the Under-18s Premier League Southern Division last season, the midfielder scored twice and grabbed himself an assist alongside making two FA Youth Cup appearances.

Nyoni has made seven international appearances at youth level, scoring and assisting on his Three Lions debut in a 3-2 victory over Italy last August.

The teenager has already said his goodbyes to Leicester on social media, stating the following on Instagram:

“Thank you, Leicester.

“I am grateful to all the players and staff at the club who have helped me develop over the past ten years and I wish nothing but success to everyone at the club.”

Possessing technical ability, close control and a cool head in the face of opposition as his strengths, Nyoni may look to follow in the steps of Reds’ midfielder Ben Doak who also joined the club at 16 years of age and has since gone on to feature for Liverpool’s first team.

The starlet debuted for Leicester’s Under-21s before his 16th birthday and Jurgen Klopp’s men will now have to settle a fee for the youngster via tribunal as the two sides could not agree a fee internally.

What next for Nyoni?

Labelled ‘one of the best in his age group’ by The Secret Scout, this is a deal that Liverpool had been working on for months.

It is bound to be disappointing for the Foxes, but nine times out of ten there is not much you can do when the big boys come calling for your top youth prospects.

Nyoni has the tools to become a household name in coming years, it remains to be seen whether the Reds will be the side to unlock that potential.
