Leicester City are set to join the race to sign Manchester City midfielder Cole Palmer on loan, according to reports.
It appears that new Leicester boss Enzo Maresca is keen on continuing to use his links with his former club to get yet another player from them.
Having already signed Callum Doyle from the Citizens, Maresca is now reportedly keen on joining the race for Palmer.
The Foxes are said to be facing competition from Burnley for his signature with Vincent Kompany also having links with City.
According to Leicester Mercury, both the Foxes and Burnley are believed to be “heading the chase” for Palmer.
Brighton are also said to be interested in the youngster too, who is in need of regular senior football.
What could Palmer bring to Leicester
Pep Guardiola once referred to Palmer as “special quality”, a heading he has yet to build on since his first Champions League goal two years ago.
Palmer would be an incredible coup for Leicester should they manage to convince the player and club that a Championship move is best.
Palmer has 38 first-team appearances for City and therefore probably doesn’t envision himself dropping down to the Championship.
That being said, at Leicester he will be offered the chance the be the star of a team, the main creative force which could stand him in good stead.
He could also be swayed by Maresca as the two have previously worked together at various levels in the Citizen set-up.
The 21-year-old is primarily an attacking midfielder and would probably represent a direct James Maddison replacement.
Given the Foxes have lined up in a 3-2-4-1 over preseason, he probably fills one of the roles behind the striker.
It is hard to gauge what he will bring with limited senior experience, however if his youth stats are anything to go by, he could transform Maresca’s side.
