Leicester City have had an array of stars play for the club over the years, but they aren’t always the next big thing to arrive on the scene.

While many of these made their name at the Foxes, spending the best days of their career with the club, others joined in the latter stages to provide some much-needed experience.

Some of those have even gone on to play crucial roles for the club, whether that be a goal in a promotion title race or a famous Champions League strike.

With that said, let’s have a look at the 10 oldest players to feature for Leicester City.

10 – Kevin Pressman – 37 years, two months and two days

Kevin Pressman is the 10th oldest player to play for the Foxes.

Joining in the 2004/05 campaign after being released by Sheffield Wednesday, Pressman only spent one season at the King Power Stadium, making 15 appearances in total.

His appearance in a 2-2 draw against Blackpool in the Third Round of the FA Cup in January 2005 saw him cement his place in the top 10.

That would be his final appearance for the club before he was released at the end of the same season.

Arguably Leicester’s greatest-ever captain, Wes Morgan is a legend of the club.

Morgan’s arrival coincided with the greatest period in the club’s history as they went on to win the Championship and the Premier League, as well as playing in the Champions League for the first time in their history.

His goal against Sevilla in the second leg of the last 16 tie was crucial as the Foxes reached the quarter-finals.

The defender’s final appearances for the club ended memorably as he came off the bench to head the final ball away at Wembley Stadium as Leicester beat Chelsea to win the FA Cup for the first time in 2021.

8 – Les Ferdinand – 37 years and five months

Despite joining towards the end of his career in the summer of 2003, Les Ferdinand was still as prolific as ever for the Foxes.

He scored 14 goals in his only season with Leicester but turned down the offer of a contract after the club was relegated out of the top flight.

Ferdinand’s final appearance for the club came in a 3-1 win against Portsmouth.

We now move on to Leicester’s greatest player of all time, Jamie Vardy.

Vardy has been at the centre of everything successful involving Leicester over the past 10 years and won pretty much everything he can while in the East Midlands.

He became the Foxes’ seventh-oldest player of all time in the club’s recent 1-0 win against Bournemouth and at the time of writing, will almost certainly creep into the top five.

6 – Arthur Chandler – 37 years, 11 months and 22 days

The original free-flowing goalscorer, Arthur Chandler is number six on the list.

Chandler is Leicester’s all-time leading goalscorer with 273 goals in all competitions and his record is made even more remarkable by the fact he never scored a penalty in his career.

He became the sixth oldest player in Leicester’s history on 18 November 1933 in a 1-1 draw against Newcastle United.

5 – Martin Keown – 38 years, five months and 22 days

Martin Keown’s time at Leicester was short-lived, with his lasting legacy the fact that he made it into the top five of this list.

Keown joined in the summer of 2004 after the Foxes’ relegation to the Championship but lasted just six months before joining Reading in January 2005.

His final appearance came in a 1-1 draw against Preston North End in January 2005.

4 – Joe Calvert – 40 years, two months and 16 days

Joe Calvert spent a large bulk of his professional career at Leicester, joining in 1932 and staying until 1947 before joining Watford.

Calvert was a terrific goalkeeper for the Foxes and like most goalkeepers, was able to enjoy a longer career than most.

He became the side’s fourth-oldest player on 19 April 1947 against Newcastle as Leicester drew 1-1 on the day.

3 – Chris Powell – 40 years, six months and 19 days

Chris Powell was already in the final years of his career when he joined Leicester in 2008 on an initial six-month contract but decided to stay after the League One title-winning campaign and eventually agreed to become a player-coach in the summer of 2009.

Powell’s role would become increasingly bit-part on the pitch but was still called upon when necessary.

The final appearance of his Leicester, and professional career, came on 27 March 2010 against Derby County.

2 – Kevin Phillips – 40 years, nine months, eight days

Kevin Phillips was well known for his goalscoring prowess and even when he joined at the age of 40, it was still an exciting prospect to see.

Phillips was very much brought in as cover but that didn’t stop him from having a crucial role in the 2013/14 Championship title season.

His first goal for the club came in a 3-1 win against Blackpool but the most important role he played was scoring the winner in a 1-0 victory away at promotion rivals Bournemouth.

He retired from football after his final appearance for the Foxes in a 1-0 win at home to Doncaster Rovers before staying on as a coach and has recently been appointed manager of Fylde.

Leicester’s oldest player is none other than Mark Schwarzer at 43.

Like most ‘keepers at his age, Schwarzer was brought in to be third-choice and help provide some experience in the dressing room.

But, injuries to goalkeepers meant he featured 11 times over two years, including the great escape campaign, where he made six Premier League appearances.

The Australian was also around the year of the famous top-flight league win but only made three League Cup appearances that campaign – the last of those being a 6-5 defeat on penalties to Hull City in October 2015.
