Leicester City vs Newcastle United has provided many great contests between the two sides over the years.
From high-scoring games to controversial moments, it’s never a dull encounter when they both play.
One of the most famous moments from previous meetings between the two sides is when Alan Shearer appeared to kick out at then-Leicester player Neil Lennon in their 1998 match-up.
Foxes fans have held a grudge against Shearer, who wasn’t sent off, ever since that night at Filbert Street.
But, how did Lennon feel about it?

Neil Lennon says Alan Shearer kick ‘looked worse than it was’
Lennon was one of the standout performers during the Martin O’Neill era and was crucial to the game plan whilst in the East Midlands.
The incident between Shearer and Lennon made headline news at the time and footage seemed to indicate that the Newcastle legend had caught the Foxes midfielder in the head.
Shearer has always claimed it was “accidental” and that he never intended to hurt Lennon and it appears that the current Dunfermline boss feels the same.
Speaking to FourFourTwo in 2022, he said: “I wish I had a fiver for every time I’m asked this question! But I’ll give the same answer I always do – Alan and I didn’t have, never had, and still don’t have a problem with each other.
“We’ve met up many times since that match [in 1998]. Because he was England’s number nine and the World Cup was coming up, a lot was made of the incident – but to be honest, it probably looked worse than it was, and I just brushed it off.
“What happened was quite out of character for Big Al, so you’ve just got to take his word that it was a complete accident. I know a lot of people are quite disappointed my answer is so boring – sorry…”
Leicester vs Newcastle H2H
Leicester’s Premier League survival hopes are hanging by a thread ahead of their game at the King Power Stadium.
The Foxes are 15 points behind 17th placed Wolverhampton Wanderers and unless a miracle takes place, it’s a return to the Championship.
Until it’s mathematically done though, the players and staff will continue to fight, however, the odds aren’t in their favour.
| Leicester wins | 49 |
| Draws | 28 |
| Newcastle wins | 58 |
Newcastle have the upper hand in the previous meetings, winning 58 times in comparison to Leicester’s 49 times.
Once again, it feels unlikely, but never say never.
