Harry Kane received his 100th England cap at Wembley on Tuesday night, scoring his 67th and 68th goals for for his country 11 years after a loan spell at Leicester City.

Leicester City were in the Championship when Tottenham Hotspur sent them a 19-year-old Harry Kane on loan in February 2013.

This was Kane’s fourth spell out on loan and would prove to be his last as he made his breakthrough at Spurs the following season.

Now, Kane is a global superstar who is the record goalscorer for both England and Tottenham, whilst he has scored 46 goals in 48 Bayern Munich appearances, assisting a further 14.

However, when Kane played 15 Championship games for Leicester in the 2012/13 season few could have predicted the 31-year-old’s career to pan out how it has.

Harry Kane on ‘tough’ Leicester City spell

In his 15 appearances for Leicester, Kane scored just twice as he often played from a wide left position under Nigel Pearson.

The Foxes ultimately lost in the play-offs that season, with the late Troy Deeney goal in the second-leg against Watford going down as one of the most famous moments in play-off history.

Now, Kane can reflect on a series of loan spells that helped shape his early career as a positive experience but the marksman revealed in an interview with The Times in 2023: “There were times in my career when it was tough.

“Especially when I was on loan away from my family, on my own and not really playing.”

The striker admitted that his remarkable career seemed unlikely as a 19-year-old, adding: “It was really difficult not being in the team. Trying to see a vision of where you want to be and your dreams, playing for Tottenham and England.

“When I was not even playing for Leicester or Norwich. That’s not an easy thing to cope with.”

If Leicester fans did not get to see the best of Kane in a Foxes shirt, they certainly have against them.

That is because the England record goal scorer has scored more goals against Leicester than any other opponent in his remarkable career.

He may have only scored two in 15 games for Leicester but Kane has netted 18 times in 16 games against his former loan club.

To add to this, he has also amassed four assists across those games, leaving Leicester fans undoubtedly delighted he has left the Premier League.
