Marc Albrighton wrote his name in Leicester City’s history books when he scored the Foxes’ first-ever Champions League goal in 2017.
The Birmingham-born winger was part of Claudio Ranieri’s squad who lifted the 2015-16 Premier League title and remained a key player throughout the side’s Champions League campaign the following season.
The 2016-17 season saw Leicester City drawn in a group with Porto, Copenhagen and Club Brugge with the latter their first opponents.

Marc Albrighton scored Leicester City’s first-ever Champions League goal
The Foxes’ first match in the Champions League took place at the Jan Breydel Stadium in Belgium on September 14th, 2016.
The Leicester City first team would’ve felt incredibly nervous but didn’t show it after running out convincing 3-0 winners.
Riyad Mahrez netted a brace, including a 61st minute penalty, but it was Albrighton who made headlines after his five minute opener saw him become the club’s first-ever player to score in the Champions League.

What could’ve been
The 2016-17 season remains Leicester City’s only appearance in the Champions League, and despite not reaching the final, the side did exceptionally well.
The Foxes topped their group after taking 13 points from a possible 18 and progressed to the knockout phase with Porto.
Drawn against Sevilla in the Last 16, Leicester City continued to defy the odds and booked their place in the quarter-finals after beating the Spaniards 3-2 on aggregate.
Unfortunately, the last eight is where the fairytale came to an end. Ranieri’s men were beaten 2-1 on aggregate against Atletico Madrid in the quarter-finals.
Albrighton called Atletico Madrid’s fans the loudest he’d ever heard, which might have explained why Leicester fell to a 1-0 first leg defeat in Spain before missing out on a semi-final clash with eventual champions Real Madrid.
