The unusual thing Enzo Maresca did with Leicester City squad after Plymouth Argyle defeat

Leicester City fell to yet another defeat in the Championship on Friday evening, as relegation-threatened Plymouth Argyle secured a 1-0 win at Home Park.

It was the same old for The Foxes, who struggled to take their chances once again against a side fighting towards the foot of the table.

Six defeats in the last 10 league games for Enzo Maresca‘s side now and that run of form is seriously jeopardising their automatic promotion hopes.

Though, their rivals Leeds United and Ipswich Town both failed to win this weekend, meaning the title is still in their hands.

Following the defeat on the South West coast, Maresca did something unusual.

According to The Athletic, Maresca locked his players in the changing rooms and delivered a one-hour debrief.

It seems The Italian head coach recognised that he had to find a new way to stimulate his players following a dismal run of form dating back to mid-February.

Leicester‘s top two hopes would’ve slipped away from them in recent weeks had it not been for others faltering too, so action is needed and fast.

Whether Maresca’s unusual tactic works, only time will tell, but it’s certainly encouraging to hear that he’s being proactive about the situation.

Enzo Maresca’s team selection is costing Leicester City

It’s been pretty obvious where Leicester have come up stuck. The Foxes have been profligate in front of goal and there have been questions asked as to why Patson Daka is starting.

Daka, as most strikers do, is going through a tricky spell in front of goal and has missed a number of big chances in recent weeks.

Maresca needs to recognise that and allow Kelechi Iheanacho or Tom Cannon a chance to shine, both of whom have hardly featured.

Jamie Vardy, who turned 37 in January, needs to be managed accordingly and can’t play every week given his age.

So for the remainder of the season, the City boss needs to take action and drop Daka to the bench.

Leicester need a reaction following Friday’s result as they take on West Bromwich Albion this Saturday in a must-win encounter.

Maresca must get his team selection spot on.
