Leicester City look near certain to be relegated back to the Championship this season.

The Foxes reside in 19th place, nine points adrift of safety after Wolves win against Southampton on the weekend.

Leicester had the chance to close the gap to six points with a win against Manchester United but they suffered a 3-0 defeat at the King Power Stadium.

It felt like the final nail in the coffin for Leicester’s hopes of survival and perhaps even Ruud van Nistelrooy’s future at the club.

Many of City’s first-teamers are expected to leave in the summer, with captain Jamie Vardy out of contract.

Speaking to Leicester City News, TBR’s transfer expert Graeme Bailey has given his verdict on whether Vardy will stay and pen a new deal.

‘Good chance’ Jamie Vardy stays at Leicester City

Bailey, speaking exclusively to the site, believes there’s a ‘good chance’ Vardy will be a Leicester play next season.

“Well again both sides will have a say – firstly I think there is a chance that Vardy will continue but who is going to be the manager is a consideration too,” TBR’s transfer correspondent said.

“I think if Vardy feels he can contribute, he will continue and there is a good chance.”

Vardy’s deal expires on the 30th of June, though, until Leicester know what division they will be playing in next year, contract talks are unlikely to happen.

Vardy will have to take a pay cut if Leicester go down

According to Capology, Vardy earns around £140,000-a-week, which clearly won’t be able to be carried in the Championship.

If City do go down, the veteran striker will have to take a major pay cut, otherwise, the club will have to offload him.

Vardy, who turned 38 in January, has netted eight times whilst laying on three assists this term, which is a commendable tally.

But there have been signs of a decline over the last few months, as he’s scored just one in 13.
