Enzo Maresca was full of praise for Leicester City midfielder Harry Winks after he scored a late winner in the 2-1 victory over QPR.

Harry Winks, who joined the club for £10 million this summer, scored late on in the game to keep the Foxes five points clear of second-placed Ipswich Town.

The 27-year-old has been instrumental since his arrival from Tottenham Hotspur, with today no exception for the midfielder.

Maresca spoke in detail about Winks’ performance, giving the midfielder credit for his late goal and revealing a secret about his move to the King Power Stadium.

Enzo Maresca on Harry Winks’ performance

Speaking to the local media after the win, the Leicester boss admitted that he made the midfielder his top priority after joining the club.

“When I met the club for the first time, he was the first name I told them. He was the main player because, with this idea, Harry is an unbelievable player.

I saw him at Spurs, I saw him last year in Italy. With us and with this idea, he’s an unbelievable player.”

Potential signing of the season

It may only be early days in the Championship season, but Leicester look well on their way to securing an immediate return to the Premier League.

Winks has been pivotal in the middle of the park with his leadership and experience – qualities that have allowed the club to reach the second-division summit.

With seven months left of the season, Winks has to keep up his high levels of performance to push the club back to the top flight at the first attempt.
