Peter Schmeichel has said that former Leicester City midfielder James Maddison ‘wasn’t really working’ during his time at the King Power.
Things have gone quite well for James Maddison since he moved to Tottenham in the summer. But before that, he was having a torrid time at Leicester City.
Maddison played his part in the relegation campaign that saw the Foxes drop down to the Championship.
He regressed as a player in his final year for Leicester, something Peter Schmeichel has highlighted in an interview with Premier League Productions.
Maddison is obviously a dangerous player when on the ball, but for Leicester, he was a huge issue off the ball.
With the defence being a huge reason behind the relegation, Maddison played his part in how awful they were.
In fact only two clean sheets were kept in the second half of last season. Both games had one recurrent theme, Maddison was on the bench.

Schmeichel gives verdict on James Maddison at Leicester
“I think Ange is the right manager,” said Schmeichel about Spurs. “He plays a style of football that really really suits Maddison.
“But there are requirements. You have to work hard. There is no luxury player in this team.”
He then launched his review of Maddison’s time at Leicester.
“When he first came to Leicester, I thought he was one of the best young players I had ever seen. He was so good, then at some point, it stagnated. He became somebody you got a little bit cross with. He wasn’t really working for the team. On the floor all the time. Diving. Stuff that really upset me, in terms of what he needed to do for the team.
“With this football club, which is bigger than Leicester. The manager and the requirements. I think he has got a much better chance to fulfil that enormous potential that he has.”
