Leicester City are enduring a dreadful campaign. The Foxes have won just four Premier League games all season.
Ruud van Nistelrooy replaced Steve Cooper last year and was supposed to steer the Foxes up the table — that hasn’t happened though.
Leicester City were beaten 2-0 by West Ham in Thursday night’s matchup, and the nature of their performance, which saw them fail to lay a glove on their London opponents, has fans fearing the worst.

Van Nistelrooy is up against it, and Wes Morgan thinks the Dutchman massively underestimated the size of the task that awaited him when he agreed to take over.

Wes Morgan thinks Ruud van Nistelrooy misjudged size of Leicester City job
Leicester City’s pathetic showing against West Ham epitomised the squad’s poor performances this season.
Van Nistelrooy’s lack of tactical agility is also a major contributor to the team’s low points tally, and Morgan has wondered if the manager now feels like he’s out of his depth.
“Some of the defending, you have to scratch your head and think ‘what’s going on?,” he told talkSPORT.
| Stat | West Ham | Leicester |
| Possession | 58 % | 42 % |
| Big chances | 4 | 0 |
| Total shots | 8 | 10 |
| Fouls | 12 | 6 |
| Passes | 647 | 462 |
“I think Ruud has come into the job, probably, on paper thinking: ‘Yeah, we’re good enough definitely to stay up’ but once he’s got his fingers into the team he’s probably thought: ‘I’m not too convinced as I was before I came in, there’s a lot of work that needs to be done here’ — And I think that’s clear to see.”
It’s impossible to argue with Morgan’s assessment when considering how lacklustre the Foxes have been week in, week out.
Limited options
Although Van Nistelrooy is guilty of not changing his personnel and system enough, the Dutchman is limited with the options he has.
The Foxes aren’t blessed with much quality in depth, and that was proven by the pressure on Facundo Buonanotte to return to the starting lineup and win points by himself.
The sad reality is — Leicester City are one of the favourites to go down, and they probably will. But Van Nistelrooy’s position at the end of the season, regardless of what happens, must be reassessed.
The former Manchester United striker is close to losing the fanbase — the dressing room won’t be far behind.
