Abdul Fatawu has quickly established himself as a fan favourite at Leicester City and is widely considered one of the most exciting young talents in the Championship.

Fatawu has shone for the league leaders this term in their hunt to make an immediate return to the Premier League.

The jet-heeled winger first rose to prominence at the Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations with Ghana back in 2021.

17 at the time, Fatawu was named Player of the Tournament and went on to debut for the senior side later that year.

With that said, here’s a deep dive into the life and career of Fatawu, including answers to all of your frequently asked questions.

When did Abdul Fatawu join Leicester City?

Leicester City signed Abdul Fatawu in August 2023 on a season-long loan deal from Portuguese outfit Sporting.

The East Midlanders have an option to buy on the 19-year-old and will have to outlay £14.5m for his permanent signature if they get promoted to the Premier League, as per The Athletic.

Abdul Fatawu stats

Fatawu has enjoyed a marvellous debut season for The Foxes and is looking every inch of a Premier League player.

The Ghanaian playmaker, who has made 31 outings for City, is the second top assister at the club this term with nine, three behind talisman Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, as of March 2024 (BBC Sport).

Fatawu has also netted four times, including a wonder-goal that won Leicester their fifth round FA Cup tie against Bournemouth.

What is Abdul Fatawu’s salary?

Fatawu is rumoured to take home a pay packet worth £9,500-per-week, which equates to an annual salary of £494,000, as per Capology.

Though, that may well increase if the King Power Stadium outfit make an instant return to the top flight, as he’ll likely have admirers this summer.

Abdul Fatawu song lyrics

The Foxes faithful have come up with a pretty unique song for Fatawu that is sung to the tune of Abba’s hit song Voulez-Vous.

Here are the song lyrics:

Fatawu, Abdul

Running down the wing, Abdul

Makes the Leicester sing, Abdul

Leicester’s going straight back up

(Repeat)

In 2021, Football Ghana reported that Liverpool had signed Fatawu from Steadfast FC for £1.5m on a five-year deal.

The outlet claimed that he would be sent on loan to Sporting, though, these claims never came to fruition. Fatawu was never a Liverpool player.

The highly-rated teenager joined Ghana’s top-flight outfit Dreams FC on a season-long loan later that year before departing for Europe shortly after.

Fatawu penned a five-year deal with Sporting in April 2022 and now plies his trade in the East Midlands with Leicester.

Abdul Fatawu goal celebration

Fatawu’s goal celebration is inspired by fellow Ghana teammate Mohammed Kudus, who plays his club football at West Ham United.

When Leicester defeated Birmingham City in a goal-flooded affair back in December, the City teenager posed with Stephy Mavididi on the advertisement boards, just like Kudus’ iconic celebration.

Whilst it wasn’t Fatawu’s goal, he did note prior to the game that he’d celebrate like the Hammers playmaker if he scored. Clearly, he did anyway after Mavididi’s well-taken opener.
