There is nobody more controversial than Leicester City’s Jon Rudkin right now.

At the forefront of all things Leicester, Rudkin has a growing influence on the day-to-day activities at the King Power Stadium.

He is also one of the club’s longest-serving employees having been with the Foxes since 2003.

In that time, Rudkin has rised from being an academy coach to becoming a senior figure with the Foxes and the sister club in Belgium, OH Leuven.

His position does appear to be under threat though, with Leicester fans calling for Rudkin to leave as they blame him for poor recruitment, a lack of communication and relegation in 2023.

Who is Jon Rudkin?

Jon Rudkin is the current director of football for Leicester City. He also balances his role with being the academy director for OH Leuven.

Rudkin was born on 13 January 1968. He was born in Leicestershire and grew up in the Wigston area of the county.

Did Jon Rudkin play football?

Rudkin played for the Leicester academy as a teenager before being released at the age of 16.

He then his playing days at non-league level, appearing for the likes of Leicester United (formerly Enderby Town).

When did Jon Rudkin join Leicester City?

Jon Rudkin joined Leicester in the late 90s as a youth coach before being promoted to head coach at the then centre of excellence.

During that time, Leicester produced iconic academy talents like Emile Heskey and Matt Piper before he became academy manager in June 2003.

Under his watch, the Foxes’ academy grew over time and achieved Category One status as Andy King, Jeffrey Schlupp, Ben Chilwell and a host of others all transitioned into the first-team.

His role changed in 2010 following the King Power takeover, ran by the Srivaddhanaprabha family under Vichai and now son, Khun Top.

He was subsequently appointed as the director of football in December 2014, midway through Leicester’s first Premier League season in 10 years.

Rudkin became more relevant as he helped the family with other roles, including the foundation of King Power Racing.

After Vichai’s death he became even more of an influential figure and has a huge say in how the club operates. From appointing managers to negotiating deals for new players, Rudkin is Top’s right-hand man.
