In a season which sees Leicester City, runaway Championship favourites, we have chosen five decisions that got the club where they are.
Given how excellent Leicester have been this campaign so far, choosing just five things they’ve done right, was a challenge.
From recruitment, to set up or hiring the right manager, they’ve enjoyed a pretty flawless few months which is reflected in their Championship record.
10 wins, one loss and 30 points from a possible 33, it is almost unfair against the opposition that they have to face Enzo Maresca‘s Foxes.
Here are five things that Leicester have got right this season…
Enzo Maresca
When the Italian was named Leicester boss, there was a mixture of suspicion and excitement.
However in the first three months, that uncertainty has turned into admiration thanks to his results.
He has made Leicester so utterly dominant that nobody can doubt his pedigree as a manager. But, the real challenge will obviously start following what seems like a likely promotion, in the Premier League.
Selling strategy
Leicester saw most of their big names depart after relegation, as Harvey Barnes, Youri Tielemans and James Maddison all left.
But of the three, only Maddison has looked like a sore miss in this squad.
In particular watching the development of Tielemans at Villa will have many thankful he left the club as he continues to regress.
Incomings were spot on
Leicester undertook a complete rebuild in the summer, with a perfect blend of youth and experience.
Wise heads like Harry Winks and Conor Coady have looked immense while the youngsters have all pulled their weight too.
Callum Doyle in particular has been really impressive when playing at a left-back role.
Kasey McAteer
A player who would be unlikely to get a chance in the Premier League, has thrived when relied upon this season.
Kasey McAteer has benefitted from the drop in division and has made himself key for Maresca.
Four goals in five games started perfectly emphasises his step-up this year. He will be keen to continue to prove he deserves to remain in the team next season too.
Mads Hermansen
Yes we already mentioned recruitment, but Mads Hermansen deserves a shoutout of his own.
Last season, Leicester’s goalkeeping situation let them down massively and was a large factor in relegation.
But 23-year-old Hermansen has been excellent this year and will be a massive part of their likely promotion.
