Forget Stephy Mavididi, another Leicester City star was unplayable in Brighton draw

Leicester City stopped the rot with a brilliant point against Brighton in the Premier League.

City arrived into the contest with the confidence completely beaten out of them after eight losses in a row without scoring.

It looked like being nine on the bounce when Joao Pedro converted a penalty in the first half but luckily, Leicester fought back.

Stephy Mavididi scored on his first league start since January, and although Pedro netted another spot-kick in the second half, Caleb Okoli equalised to earn his side their first point in 76 days.

As Leicester drew 2-2 against Brighton, Mavididi drew a lot of plaudits for his impressive performance but another one of his teammates produced an arguably even better display.

Bilal El Khannouss was unplayable against Brighton

Ruud van Nistelrooy changed formation against the Seagulls, reverting to his 4-3-2-1 system, with Bilal El Khannouss slotting in behind Jamie Vardy.

The Moroccan has been brilliant since arriving in the Premier League, even during their struggles in the last few months.

On Saturday, El Khannouss was influential once more, not only providing the inch-perfect delivery for Okoli’s header but also proving to be unplayable.

The 20-year-old manipulated possession beautifully, fashioned opportunities for his teammates and showed willingness to win the ball back.

Bilal El Khannouss stats vs Brighton

As demonstrated by the above statistics, the Leicester playmaker was a hub of creativity, with the headline metric being his four key passes and two accurate crosses.

Brighton struggled to live with the former Genk star and that bodes well for the future, although it could be elsewhere.

El Khannouss set for Leicester City exit

Leicester’s draw at the AMEX only reduced the deficit between them and 17th place Wolves to 14 points.

A win for the Wanderers on Sunday against Tottenham would leave the Foxes on the brink of relegation, and a return to the Championship.

Van Nistelrooy will be bracing himself for a summer of exits and El Khannouss is arguably the player most likely to leave, alongside goalkeeper Mads Hermansen.

El Khannouss is simply too talented to be playing in the second tier having held his own in the top flight, with one big club surely willing to take a gamble on him.

Arsenal have shown an interest in El Khannouss, as have several top European sides, which suggests supporters will need to enjoy watching him while they can.
