Leicester City face Newcastle United tonight in what might be the Foxes last chance of mounting some sort of Premier League survival bid.
This weekend saw the first team confirm their relegation status from the top-flight as Southampton set the record as the earliest team in Premier League history to suffer the drop, with Leicester only seven points ahead of the Saints.

With the King Power Stadium side facing some big teams in the upcoming weeks in Newcastle tonight, Brighton & Hove Albion and Liverpool, there’s a reason why Ruud van Nistelrooy has already accepted Leicester’s fate as a team that will be relegated this season.
Yet for Wout Faes, the Belgian international has a different viewpoint on Leicester’s status as a Premier League club in the coming weeks.

Wout Faes says Leicester City squad have belief they can stay up
Speaking to Leicester’s official website, the former Stade de Reims centre-back shared how ‘everyone’ in the Leicester squad still has a belief that the Foxes could stay up in the Premier League despite being 15 points off Wolves heading into tonight’s game with Newcastle.
Faes said: “A lot of people always speak but for us at the Club, and for everyone in the squad, the most important thing is that we can still do it. It’s not finished yet. Obviously, it’s a very difficult task and everyone knows that, but it’s doable.”
Indeed, comments like this are expected from players, especially in interviews with the club’s official website, yet Faes is kidding himself if he truly believes that Leicester have a chance at staying up in the Premier League this season.
And supporters will rightfully feel baffled by what the £15m defender is going on about in his recent interview with Leicester, especially when Faes’ form has been a key reason behind the Foxes being as bad as they have been this season.
Leicester need to prepare as best as possible for the Championship
Returning to the Championship next season will be a bitter pill to swallow for Leicester, yet unlike last time where there was an almost arrogant state of mind of playing in the second-tier and winning promotion, the East Midlands side need to be as best prepared as possible.
Leicester’s recruitment has come under plenty of fire in the last 12 months with the Foxes simply not making the most of their resources, with the squad now arguably in worse shape as it was last season in the Championship.
And ahead of a return to the second-tier, Leicester need to do everything possible to build a squad that can not only compete in the Championship, but also do well in the Premier League if they immediately go back up again next season.
