Leicester City’s Boubakary Soumare is wanted by Sevilla permanently but there is one major factor that could stand in their way.

Boubakary Soumare was shipped out on loan to Sevilla at the start of the season.

The Frenchman, who was captured from Lille for £17 million in 2021, has become a crucial cog in Quiche Sanchez Flores’ midfield.

During his time in Spain, he’s excelled across a variety of roles, mainly as a defensive midfielder or a box-to-box midfielder.

Soumare has made 16 appearances in La Liga as Sevilla have struggled towards the bottom of the table, separated from the relegation zone by just seven points.

Once Premier League football is secured, the 24-year-old would be a great addition to Enzo Maresca’s engine room, who has endorsed him previously.

Unfortunately, Soumare sees his future away from the King Power and unless the Italian can work his magic in convincing him to stay, he will depart the club.

Sevilla have made it clear that they want Leicester to facilitate a permanent move, but the financial constraints placed on the Spanish giants will make that difficult to achieve.

Sevilla want to sign Boubakaray Soumare permanently

The Spanish side are in the midst of financial turmoil and will need to sanction moves for their best players to help alleviate the stress that has been placed on the club.

In their current situation, spending money in the transfer market isn’t a wise idea, although that hasn’t stopped them eyeing up a permanent move for Soumare.

As reported by AS, Sevilla can’t afford to trigger the Frenchman’s €14 million (£12 million) purchase clause they agreed with Leicester and will need to renegotiate.

Sevilla are desperate for the Championship side to ‘facilitate the operation’ so a deal can be done that suits both parties.

Leicester should try to keep Soumare

Once Leicester wrap up promotion, Maresca should try to keep Soumare on board and promise him a prominent role in his plans next term.

After starring in a struggling Sevilla side, he still has a lot to offer Leicester. They are crying out for a ball-winner in their midfield who can drive forward with the ball and wreak havoc in the opposing half.

Soumare’s performances this season suggest he’s more than capable of doing that, and he’s certainly someone who Maresca should consider keeping at the club.

Not only that, but given Sevilla are trying to negotiate a lower fee demonstrates even more reason to keep him at the King Power.
