Leicester’s 2016 summer transfer window didn’t at all go to plan.

It was Leicester’s chance to really build on the Premier League title triumph, however, pretty much every signing was a failure.

The £30m addition of Islam Slimani was met with great excitement but it quickly became apparent that he wasn’t quite up to the level required.

Ahmed Musa was in a similar boat and Nampalys Mendy just wasn’t a good enough N’Golo Kante replacement.

However, one of their flop signings is now reinventing himself on the continent and could captain his side to UEFA Conference League glory this season.

Bartosz Kapustka captaining Legia Warsaw to UEFA Conference League glory

When Leicester signed Bartosz Kaputska in 2016, it was regarded as a real coup for the Premier League champions.

Kaputska had just come off the back of an impressive EURO 2016 with Poland and was wanted by many of Europe’s top clubs, including Juventus.

The teenage ‘wonderkid’ joined in a £7.5m deal from Cracovia, however, after making just three senior appearances for the Foxes, he left on a permanent deal for Legia Warsaw in 2020.

Fast forward to 2025, Kaputska is Legia’s captain and has netted 12 times from midfield this season, helping them to the last 16 of the UEFA Conference League.

The Polish outfit have been drawn against Molde in the two-legged knockout round, so there’s a genuine possibility they could make the quarters.

Kaputska now back in the Poland squad

For almost eight years, Kaputska wasn’t named in the Poland squad, with his last appearance coming towards the end of 2016 – his breakout year.

However, last year, he finally got the call-up back to the national team as he featured in a 3-3 draw against Croatia in the UEFA Nations League.

Kaputska’s terrific form will almost certainly earn him another cap this month, with Poland scheduled to play two World Cup qualifiers against Lithuania and Malta.
