Leicester City could’ve signed him for £8m in 2020, now he’s one of the best in the world worth £100m

Leicester City’s recruitment has been largely successful under the King Power ownership.

The Thai owners have brought unprecedented success to the club, winning the Premier League, FA Cup and Community Shield.

That’s largely been built on excellent business in the transfer market, with the likes of Jamie Vardy, Riyad Mahrez and N’Golo Kante recruited as relative unknowns.

However, Leicester have made a number of transfer blunders, too, like the £27m they outlaid on Islam Slimani, who failed to make an impact.

The Foxes could’ve also signed a now world class player for just £8m in 2020.

Leicester City tried to sign Michael Olise in 2020

According to TNT Sport, Leicester City were showing an interest in signing then-Reading star Michael Olise ahead of the 2021 January transfer window.

The 19-year-old had enjoyed a sensational breakout season with the Championship outfit and was being targetted by a number of Premier League sides.

However, despite Leicester challenging for the top four at the time, they lost out to Crystal Palace, who signed Olise for just £8m.

Now, the Frenchman is plying his trade at Bayern Munich and has registered a whopping 24 goal contributions this term.

The Bundesliga giants value the 23-year-old at £100m as he’s widely considered one of the best wingers on the planet.

Leicester ended up signing no one that window

Leicester ended up not signing a single player that window and ultimately it probably cost them Champions League football.

The Foxes dropped out of the top four on the final day as they suffered a bruising 4-2 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur.

Their squad depth just couldn’t handle the several injuries that occurred and it was Chelsea and Liverpool who managed to overtake them.

What could’ve been if they’d have signed Olise.
