Leicester City have shown long-running interest in one star who dazzled in the Championship on loan last term.

Leicester are flying at the top of the Championship but they know that nothing is ever guaranteed and that is why Enzo Maresca is looking to invest in this window.

The Foxes may hold a 13-point gap over third-place Southampton but instead of resting on their laurels, they want to step it up a gear by bolster their already star-studded squad.

With Maresca’s side still carrying their high status as a result of their time in the top flight, they are able to attract names that second tier clubs can only dream of.

Leicester showed this with attempts to sign wonderkid centre-back Lucas Beraldo and although he joined PSG instead, targeting such a player demonstrates their intentions to build for the future.

As a result of their huge lead at the top, Maresca can look at players with one eye on the Premier League while using the allure of promotion to attract talented youngsters.

One name who has been on their radar for a while is Manchester United winger Amad Diallo, who dazzled on loan at Sunderland last term.

He has since been frozen out of Erik ten Hag’s plans until he made his first appearance of the season in their defeat to Nottingham Forest on December 30th.

Amad Diallo is wanted by Leicester and Sunderland

As reported by HITC, Man United are considering their options over the future of Diallo.

After featuring off the bench against Forest, he offered far more than Antony and the Red Devils may opt to keep him.

However, several teams in the Championship would be queuing up for his signature, should they decide to send him on loan.

Sunderland are reportedly desperate to reunite with the 21-year-old, who was described as ‘incredible’ by Luke O’Nien after firing them into the play-offs last term with 14 often spectacular goals.

Leicester are also said to be interested in securing his signature but already have Abdul Fatawu tearing through opponents on the right flank.

Should Leicester sign Diallo?

After a slow start, Fatawu has been in blistering form for Leicester and has weighed in with two goals and seven assists this season, as per Transfermarkt.

The Ghanian has become a creative machine for the Foxes, preferring to set up his teammates rather than go for glory himself.

If Leicester were to sign Diallo, however, this would create a selection headache for Maresca.

He’d have two quality youngsters to choose from and that’s enough to strike fear into any Championship defences.

In their current situation, having Fatawu is enough but if he was to get injured, options are sparse till Kasey McAteer returns from injury.

That said, the Foxes could sign Diallo on loan to spite Sunderland but also to significantly improve their forward line.
