Leicester City in fierce transfer race with Everton for ‘amazing’ Premier League midfielder

Leicester City fans are waiting patiently for the first signing to be made of the January transfer window, with plenty of names on the radar.

Following five straight Premier League defeats, pulling Ruud van Nistelrooy’s men into the relegation zone, Leicester must now nail the transfer window.

Defence is a priority for Leicester after conceding the division’s second-most goals (44), including 13 in their last five matches.

A right-back and centre-back would be ideal additions to the squad but links also suggest that van Nistelrooy wants to sign a midfielder, and he could look right under his nose.

Leicester City and Everton interested in Brighton’s Jakub Moder

According to Caught Offside, Leicester and Everton are in talks with Brighton over the signing of Poland international Jakub Moder.

The Seagulls know that Moder – who was dubbed ‘amazing’ – sees his contract expire in June, and are desperate to cash in to avoid losing him on a free transfer.

Brighton signed Moder when Graham Potter was in charge of the club in October 2020. It was Potter who handed him his first Premier League start in March 2021 against Newcastle.

However, opportunities to impress further have been limited as the 25-year-old suffered an ACL injury in April 2022, which kept him sidelined for 575 days and saw him miss 94 games for club and country.

Now fully fit and available under Fabian Hurzeler, Moder has warmed the bench under the German, playing just eight minutes in the top flight and 139 minutes in the Carabao Cup.

It seems best for his career that he’s moved on this month, and Leicester could hold an advantage over their transfer rivals.

Leicester nearly swapped Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall for Moder

In the summer transfer window, before Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall joined Chelsea for £30 million, he was very nearly involved in a swap deal with Brighton’s Moder.

According to Fabrizio Romano in June, Leicester agreed to swap Dewsbury-Hall for Moder, of course with a fee inserted for their star midfielder.

However, despite a medical being booked for both players, Chelsea enquiring about the 26-year-old and then submitting a bid perhaps scuppered a deal.

So, with Leicester now interested in Moder once more and given how well Facundo Buonanotte has done on loan from Brighton, they should now have the upper hand in negotiations.
