Leicester City have been linked with a January move for a Serie A defender who could be shown the door by his club less than a year after joining.

The Foxes are busy preparing for the January transfer window and one area that could be targeted is the defensive position.

Only Wolves have conceded more first-half goals than Leicester this season while the form of the likes of Wout Faes, Conor Coady, Jannik Vestergaard and Caleb Okoli has been inconsistent.

Ruud van Nistelrooy knows that this must change and with the Foxes potentially targeting a centre-back in January, a new name has now cropped up.

According to reports in Italy, Ben Godfrey has been linked with a move to the King Power Stadium in January.

Godfrey, 26, joined Atalanta in the summer after four seasons at Everton but has failed to set the world alight and only made four appearances at the Serie A league leaders.

The defender has significant top flight experience having played over 100 Premier League games for the Toffees and Norwich City but is seemingly unfavoured in Italy and has already been given the green light to leave.

In Italy, Godfrey plays alongside former Foxes loanee Ademola Lookman, who turned Leicester down to join Atalanta.

Leicester face competition to sign Ben Godfrey from Premier League rivals

It isn’t just Leicester who have been linked with a move for Godfrey.

Among those also allegedly considering a move is Premier League rivals Nottingham Forest and Wolves.

The latter may reconsider their stance though after Wolves sacked Gary O’Neil and a new manager may have other ideas.

Roma, managed by Leicester legend Claudio Ranieri, have also been linked with Godfrey but he may prefer to return to England and join a side where he is guaranteed game time.
